Shirley Ann "Sweetie" (Acton) Smith, born February 13th, 1937, departed this world August 26th, 2024 at UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Sweetie leaves behind two children, son Bobby Smith, and daughter Jeanne Smith, both of London, Kentucky, cherished granddaughter, Lily Robinson, also of London, her beloved cat, Buddy, plus a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Obert and Marie (Reynolds) Acton, husband, Gene Smith, son Bryan Smith, brother Herschel Acton, sister Norma Jean "Shorty" (Acton) Cornn, and very special love Fred Dupree.

Sweetie a.k.a "Mayor of West Dixie", loved her lifetime home, the City of London, with a passion matched by few. Sweetie came by her nickname by chance, but there could not have been a more apt identifier. She loved to entertain her friends and family year round, but especially around the holidays. She was known to drive around town, visit friends, and talk about how things were always changing in London and the "good old days" while excited about the future of our community.

She grew up surrounded by music in her childhood home and learned to play saxophone in the London High School Band, which developed a deep love for jazz music and Frank Sinatra. She had an enormous love for local and UK sports, attending many games to show her support. She was an instrumental figure in the development of London. Some of the more familiar contributions Sweetie made towards the betterment of London included the London Country Club and the London Veterans Park. She loved the World Chicken Festival, attending Thursday Night Live, and numerous other civic activities in downtown London.

As wonderful a person Sweetie was to her friends and family, it has been a beautiful gift to see the outpouring of not only love and support from the community, but stories from those who experienced Sweetie's love and kindness. We could not have asked for a better legacy. Sweetie, your presence will be missed, and our memories of you will forever be treasured.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Sweetie at the London Country Club on September 21st beginning at 2 P.M and lasting until we have laughed, cried, hugged and shared wonderful stories of our beloved mother and Sweetie of the community.
