Rev. James Olin "Cowboy" Truett, affectionately known as Jimmy, was born on July 30, 1958, in London, Kentucky. He was the eldest son of the late J.D. Truett and Mossie Mae Huff Truett and the eldest grandson of the late Olin and Fannie Patterson Huff. Jimmy went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 66 years, 7 months and 23 days of age.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Kelley Truett of Berea, Kentucky, and his five children: James Wesley Truett and wife Sonya, Patricia Lynell Truett of Glasgow, Kentucky, Tracy Lynn Sizemore and husband Roger of London, Tamara Sue Helton and husband Jason of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Robert Damrell of Berea. He also leaves behind two siblings, Fannie Evans of London and John Truett of Williamsburg, Kentucky, along with thirteen grandchildren, Lance, Logan, Camron, Sebastian, Nora and Khloe Truett; Landon, Kaylea, Willow and Raymond Sizemore, Sarah and Hannah Helton and Robert Stewart and five great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild due in October. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends also mourn his passing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Arvil Evans.
Jimmy was a man of deep faith, always eager to share the transformative power of accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a preacher of the gospel and a talented singer and guitar player. As a faithful member of New Vision Pentecostal Church in Richmond, Kentucky, Jimmy cherished his time with his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. His legacy of love and care will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The funeral service for James Olin "Cowboy" Truett was conducted Saturday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Anderson officiating. Burial followed in the Cloyd-Huff Cemetery in East Bernstadt.
