London - George York, age 77, of London, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Proffitt York; five children, Lindsey York of London, KY, Joe Smith & wife Crissy of East Bernstadt, KY, Chris York of Gray, KY, Gary Bruner & wife Dorthy of Barbourville, KY, Eric York of Gray, KY; eleven grandchildren, Jacob Johnson, Austin York, Landen York, Tyson York, Lincoln York, Jasmine Jackson, Jaylen Smith, Brodie Smith, Layla Norman, Trevor York, Chris York Jr; one great grandchild, Serenity York; his sister-in-law, Kay Hubbard; plus a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends to cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert York Sr. and Gracie Mae Young York; seven siblings, Diane Frazier, Velma Smith, Albert York Jr. (Chief), Alberta Sue York, Ida Jean York, Betty Geraldine York, Larry York; and by one grandchild.

George was a proud veteran of the United States Army and carried his love for his country throughout his life. After his military service, he devoted over 20 years of hard work to Flowers Bakery, where he was known as a dependable and dedicated employee.

A man with a soft heart, George was always willing to help others, especially his fellow veterans. His compassion and leadership led him to found the Keavy Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization close to his heart. Through this work, he touched countless lives and leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, advocacy, and kindness.

George will be remembered not only for his strong work ethic and service to his country, but also for his gentle spirit, generosity, and willingness to stand up for those in need.

A funeral service honoring George York will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in London, KY. Military honors will be provided by the local DAV Chapter 158 of Keavy, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
