Bessie Creech Obituary

Bessie Jean Oakley Creech, age 90, of London, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Joe Roy Creech.

She was born February 13, 1935 in Laurel County, Kentucky; the daughter of the late John Bert Oakley and Louvernia Hubbard Oakley. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Creech Dison; one grandson, Michael Joseph Pieter Nies; five sisters, Dorothy Smith, Ethel Adams, Violet Dillion, Geneva Dillion and Lola Mae Oakley; eight brothers, Walter Oakley, Arthur Oakley, Chester Oakley, George Steve Oakley, Bert Oakley, Jr., Lonnie Oakley, Everett Oakley and Randall Oakley.

She is survived by four daughters, Sue McWilliams and husband Tommy, Lou Hale and husband Richard, Lola Dean Creech all of London, and Pamela Thomas and husband Johnnie of Corbin, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Kim Reynolds, Shawn McWilliams (Renee), Misty Wainscott (Joe), Amanda Grubb (Chris), Steve McWilliams (Mary), Robyn Britton (Gary), Kathy McWilliams, and Heather Nies (David); fifteen, great-grandchildren, Melanie, Megan, Luke, Brandon, Serenity, Dylan, Patience, Grace, Braxton, Tyler, Jayla, Ethan, Halena Rose, Roxie, and Coleman; two brothers, Elmer Oakley and Ronald Oakley both of London; as well as a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing.

She was a homemaker that enjoyed canning and putting away garden vegetables and fruits. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting. She was very dedicated to her family and thoroughly enjoyed cooking dinners for everyone, especially on holidays. She also enjoyed camping, eating out, walking, and traveling on vacations throughout her life. She is a member of Mt. Moriah United Baptist Church. She taught the Young People's Sunday School Class for 30 years. And also, would like to list all the former students in the class as honorary pallbearers. As well as, her son-in-laws, Tommy McWilliams, Richard Hale, and Johnnie Thomas; along with, Joe Wainscott, Jeff Dillion, David Isaac, Tony Krahenbuhl, and Rick Dillion.

The funeral service for Bessie Creech will be conducted at 1 pm Wednesday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Jamie Krahenbuhl and Larry Dean Oakley officiating. Burial will follow in East Colony Cemetery in London.

The family of Bessie Creech will receive friends beginning at 12 noon Wednesday until the funeral hour of 1 pm at Bowling Funeral Home.
