Williamsport, Indiana - Arnold Overbey, 89, of Williamsport, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 3, with his loving wife of nearly 70 years by his side.

Arnold was born on December 9, 1936, in Boering, Kentucky, to Milton and Bertha (Mullins) Overbey. He was raised in London, Kentucky, where he spent his early years before moving to northwest Indiana in 1955 to begin a career in manufacturing.

On August 25, 1956, Arnold married the love of his life, Elaine Bennett. The two met at Elaine's mother's restaurant in Lake Station, Indiana, where she was working as a waitress. From that day forward, they built a beautiful life together, sharing nearly seven decades of marriage filled with love, devotion, and unwavering partnership.

Arnold and Elaine raised their three daughters in Roselawn, Indiana. Later, they moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, where they lived for forty years before relocating to Williamsport, Indiana, in 2023 to be closer to family.

Arnold retired in 1989 from the Budd Company after more than 30 years of dedicated service. He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Union and took great pride in his work and the life it provided for his family. His work ethic was like none other.

Arnold found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved working in his yard and garden, tending to every detail with care and pride. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed a cold beer while watching the race or sitting on the deck. He never met a stranger and had a gift for making friends wherever he went. Above all, Arnold was fiercely devoted to his family. His love for them was constant, strong, and unconditional.

In addition to his beloved wife, Elaine, Arnold is survived by his three daughters: Danita (Bobby) Spain of St. Louis, Missouri; Kathy (Bill) McMurtrie of Attica, Indiana; and Amy Overbey Moody of Johnson City, Tennessee.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Amanda (Brad) Tolley of St. Louis, Missouri; Clinton Spain of Oakland, California; Danielle (Sal) Robledo of Rensselaer, Indiana; Alyssa Goin (Robert Johnson) of Rensselaer, Indiana; Luke (Annette) Goin of Lebanon, Indiana; Jessi (Jason) Eguia of Oklahoma; and Isaac Moody of Johnson City, Tennessee; as well as seven great-grandchildren—three of whom were born in the last five months—and three step great-grandchildren.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Clifford Overbey, Pauline Owens, Zoe Wells, Carl Overbey, and Zola Mae Gregory; and his infant twin brother, Harley.

Arnold's warm smile, quick sense of humor, steadfast loyalty, and deep love for his family will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Guardian Angels Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided to Arnold and his family during the last four months of his life.

A memorial gravesite service will be held at the Brown-Mullins Cemetery in London, KY on Friday, March 13, 2026. Memorial contributions in Arnold's memory may be made to the Guardian Angels Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.
