Anglee Smith Obituary

London - Anglee (Peters) Smith passed away Wednesday, June 25th, 2025. Born November 8th, 1935 in Marydell, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Alfred and Lucy Sherman Peters.

Anglee was a 1952 graduate of Bush High School and a 1956 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. She taught Home Economics at Lily High School, Hazel Green High School, and Laurel County High School, a career that spanned 33 years. During these years she served as advisor to the Future Homemakers of America club, sponsored numerous cheerleader squads and the LCHS Cardinalette drill team, and assisted many band activities.

Anglee was an avid genealogy researcher, spending countless hours in court houses and cemeteries searching for links to her family tree. This interest led her to become involved with the Laurel County Historical Society for which she served as president for several years. Anglee also served the community through numerous other organizations, taking on leadership positions in many of them. These organizations included the Women's Club of London Wildcat Mountain Preservation Foundation, Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority, Laurel County Retired Teachers Association, Laurel County Bicentennial Celebration Commission, London/Laurel County Vision 2000 Committee, Friends of Levi Jackson Board of Directors, and the Golden Rule Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a master volunteer in clothing construction for the UK Cooperative Extension Service and the long time chairman of the Alfred Peters Cemetery. In 2017, Anglee was honored as a Laurel County Living Treasure.

Anglee was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, her siblings- Jean, Henrietta, Ira, Clifford, and Gerald, and her son-in-law, David.

She is survived by her daughters, Melanie Bratcher of Warner Robins, Georgia and Melissa Fouts (Mark) of Anchorage, AK. Her grandchildren, Kevin Bratcher and Emily Florida (Tony) all of Atlanta, GA, Matthew Fouts and Madeline Fouts both of Anchorage, AK.

The family of Anglee (Peters) Smith will receive friends at London Funeral Home Saturday, June 28th, 2025 from 1:00 PM til 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at A.R. Dyche Memorial Park.
