Virgil L.'s Story
Virgil L. Elza, 88, London, Ky., passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Hyden Health and Rehab Center.
Born September 8, 1927 in Harlan County, Ky., he was the son of the late Rufus and Mamie McNew Elza.
He was a heavy equipment operator, a US Army veteran and affiliated with the Holiness faith.
Survivors include his wife, Lena (Marcum) Elza of London; four sons, William Ray Elza of Franklin, Ohio, Kenneth Wayne Elza and wife Ellen of East Bernstadt, Virgil Lee Elza and wife Bridget, and David Frank Elza and wife Missy all of London; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rostie Irene Elza; by a son, Leslie Elza; by his parents; four brothers, Charlie Elza, Hiram Elza, Junior Elza, and John Elza; and a sister, Sarah Cox.
Funeral service for Virgil L. Elza will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in London Funeral Home Chapel with James Allen officiating.
Burial will follow at Elza Cemetery with DAV Chapter 158, Keavy, in charge of military honors.
Pallbearers will be David Elza, Dustin Barnes, Brian Evans, Kevin Evans, Adam Bailey, and Dewayne Bailey.
Honorary pallbearer will be Kenneth Elza.
The family of Virgil L. Elza received friends at London Funeral Home after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19.
