Thelma Lee's Story

Thelma Lee Maxey Gafford, 91, of Louisville, was born March 21, 1926 in London, Kentucky and departed this life on February 1, 2018 at her home in Louisville, Kentucky.
She was the daughter of the late Robert Maxey and the late Ellen Johnson Maxey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert D. Gafford Sr.; her siblings, Mable George, Lou Alice Howard, James Maxey, and Imogene Wethington; and great-grandson, Caden Tungett. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara Parker (Tony), Linda Wyatt (Mike), Vickie Tungett, G. Darrell Gafford Jr. (Judie), and Kathy Van Sant; grandchildren, Stephanie Parker Siegel (Mike), Shannon Parker Danesteh (Brom), Anthony Parker Jr. (Denisa), Kimberly Overman Sweazy(Bill), Whitney Wyatt (Rad), Rusty Tungett (Samantha), Jason Tungett (Emily), Kelsey Gafford, Michael Gafford, and Sean Van Sant (Kadee); and 11 great-grandchildren.
Thelma was a founding member of Maple Grove Baptist Church and a member of Eastern Star. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all.
Funeral service was at 12 noon on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Evergreen Funeral Home with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation was from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018. Memorial donations in Thelma's memory can be made to Maple Grove Baptist Church.
