Robert Lee's Story

Robert Lee Hurley, 93, departed this life at his home on Wednesday, August 2, 2107.
He was born on May 13, 1924, in Laurel County, Ky., the son of the late Frank and Nora Dunaway Hurley.
He was united in marriage to Edith Payne Hurley, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by six children, Joyce Mullins and Owen Hurley, both of East Bernstadt, Otis Hurley (Marsha), of London, Donna Travillion (Eugene) and Robbie Hurley, all of East Bernstadt, and Teresa Hurley Fightmaster (fiancee, Thomas Martin) of Richmond; five siblings, Donald, Bill and Darrell Hurley, Wanda Rudack and Linda Weaver, all of East Bernstadt; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, and a special caregiver, Juanita Vaughn, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Owen Gene Hurley, Jr.; and five siblings, Lula Baldwin, Gene, Boss, Jack and James Hurley.
He was a retired truck driver and mechanic and was affiliated with the Baptist faith. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
In December 2015, he completed 50 years with the East Bernstadt Fire Department, having served as a firefighter, chief and a member of the Board of Directors.
Funeral services for Robert Lee Hurley was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Denny McCowan officiating.
Pallbearers were Sonny Boggs, Daniel Miller, Darrin Travillian, Jeff Hurley, Dewayne Mullins, Greg Cloyd
Burial followed in the Pittsburg Cemetery.
Military honors were conducted by DAV Chapter 165, McKee, Ky.
The family received friends after 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, also at the funeral home.
