Mildred Alice McKnight, 79, passed on January 9, 2018, following a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
A 1957 graduate of Bush High School, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Maxine Wilson; her brother Maurice Wilson; and husband of 59 years, Lewis McKnight.
She is survived by daughter, Beverly McKnight Pietch and husband Rick of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Randy McKnight and wife Tia of Indian Trail, N.C.; grandson, Benjamin Tipp of Kings Mountain, N.C.; sisters, Betty Taylor and Carol Garland of London; sister, Margaret Byrd and husband Bill of Greenville, Ohio; sister, Jeanie Giambri of Westerville, Ohio; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Family visits were Mildred's very favorite thing. Hers was a home where friends and relatives were always welcome, and often gathered around the kitchen table. Until fairly recently, Mildred's preferred form of exercise was walking on her country roadusually with one of her sisters or a neighbor. She had a creative side, enjoying sewing, painting, and photography.
In younger days, treasured family vacations were spent camping, boating and water skiing on Lake Cumberland and Laurel Lake. She and Lewis also loved to square dance, often traveling around the area to join their favorite "callers."
A visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, at House Rawlings Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 12 noon. Burial will be private.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who loved, visited, and cared for Mildred. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
