Mary Jane's Story
Mary Jane Wolf Sparkman, 67, was born on October 15, 1949, and grew up in Batavia, Ohio. Jane resided in London, Ky., for the past 44 years where she died on the evening of October 24, 2016.
Jane grew up on Old Boston Road in Batavia, Ohio. Ecology and biology were a large part of her childhood, whether it involved fishing trips with her family to Michigan or collecting snakes from the area surrounding her home.
She graduated from Batavia High School in 1967, moving to Cincinnati to start her college career. Jane joined Alpha Chi Omega and remained an active member throughout.
She obtained her degree in pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati in 1972 and married Robert that same year.
They moved to London, where they both started careers in pharmacy.
Jane worked at Manchester Hospital prior to venturing into retail pharmacy at Family Drug at the corner of KY-192 and US Highway 25 in London. She also remained interested in the outdoors -- hiking, rafting and canoeing. Bob and Jane spent considerable time hiking and exploring the woods around the Phelps family farm near Marsh Branch off of KY-192. Many of her happiest times were spent on vacations to Utah, and Quetico Provincial Park.
Brian was born in 1984. Jane was always very involved in his growth with numerous trips to school, PTA meetings, academic team meets, soccer games, track meets, and school fundraisers.
Jane was preceded in death by her father, Louis Wolf (age 75), and mother Imelda White Wolf (age 89) both of Batavia, Ohio.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert (Bob) Paul Sparkman, son Brian K. Sparkman, sister Ann Maddox, two brothers Michael Wolf and Bob Wolf, five nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 12 noon on Oct. 29, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. Both services will be held at London Funeral Home, 879 S. Main St. London, Ky.
