Louis  Smith


Louis V. "Buster" Smith, age 80, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at his home.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carolyn. Buster leaves behind three sons, Louis (Alain), Steve (Carolee) and Danny (Carrie). In addition to his children, he is survived by six grandchildren, Ethan Schlueter (Jaclyn), Kristina Medina (Jered), Allison Smith, Daniel Smith, Sarah Smith, and Kaylee Smith as well as one great-grandchild, Maverick Schlueter. Buster's siblings, Julia Beets and Jack Smith, both of London, also survive, along with a host of loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Smith.
A 1959 graduate of Bush High School, Buster worked several years in construction and used car businesses. Buster spent 26 years in service to Laurel County, having served as deputy under three sheriffs. He served as Laurel County Sheriff from 1982 through 1985. He retired from service in 2013.
Buster loved working in his garden through the years and especially enjoyed the company of his pet cat, Tom. Rarely seen without his trademark pipe, he could always be found a faithful fan of the Cincinnati Reds, serving as armchair coach. Buster was also a member of the family of Slate Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 3 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Slate Hill Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Schell officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to CASA of Laurel County or the London Homeless Shelter (Good Samaritan House 220 East Fourth Street London, KY 40741).
The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
