Joyce Ann Hunt Roark Joyce Ann Hunt Roark, 79, of Winchester, Ky., wife of Lowell D. Roark since June 1984, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at The Willows at Hamburg after battling with pancreatic cancer since January 2015. She was born July 11, 1936 in the rural community of Greenmount in Laurel County, the daughter of the late James Hunt and Marie Bowling Hunt. She graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1954 and Sue Bennett Junior College in 1956. She was a church secretary at First Baptist Church of London from 1956-1958. She then attended Georgetown College, graduating in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in business education. Joyce then returned to Laurel County and taught at her home high school, Hazel Green from 1960-1964. She then moved to Williamsburg, Ky., where she served as secretary to the president of Cumberland College, Dr. J.M. Boswell. From there she attended the University of Kentucky, graduating with a master’s degree in educational guidance counseling. Joyce’s journey then took her to employment in Fayette County Schools where she spent 20 years as a guidance counselor at Bryan Station Senior High in Lexington. After retirement in 1993, Joyce spent several years doing volunteer work at Meals on Wheels and Hospice. Joyce married Lowell after planning a trip with Trinity Baptist Church to the Holy Land and Mediterranean Cruise, so this became their honeymoon. They enjoyed many trips and travels together over the next 30 years. Funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 8, at 12 noon at the First Baptist Church, 32 E. Lexington Ave, with the Rev. Rick Landon presiding. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Burial will be in the A.R. Dyche Memorial Park in London, with graveside services at 3 p.m. on Friday at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Franklin, David Thomas, John Pumphrey, Clint Walker and Juanita Chrisitan.
