Jennings Gilbert, 84, loving husband of Greta (Bruner) Gilbert for 62 years of London, Ky., passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Saint Joseph London.
He was the father of Kim Hooker Grant and husband Larry, Julian Keith Gilbert, and Kelli Amanda Gray and husband Dean, all of London; the brother of Billy Gilbert and wife Ronnie Lou of London.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Gilbert and Sallie (Britton) Gilbert; by one sister, Laddie Joyce Gilbert, and by one grandson, Jonathan Walton Hooker.
He was an active member of Freedom United Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and clerk, a Korean War veteran and a retired mine foreman.
Funeral service for Jennings Gilbert was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Freedom United Baptist Church with Pastor Adam Hooker, Matthew Gilbert, and Brother Terry Gabbard officiating.
Burial followed at Freedom Cemetery with DAV Chapter 165, McKee, in charge of military honors.
Serving as pallbearers were Michael Gilbert, Brian Gray, Chad Robinson, Jeremy Berta, Jamie Gilbert, John Gilbert, and Jimmy Swafford.
Honorary pallbearers were Mike Swafford, Ronnie Bruner, Craig Bruner, and Travis Gabbard.
The family of Jennings Gilbert received friends at London Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Saturday, July 29, and from 1 p.m. Sunday, July 30, until the 2 p.m. funeral hour at Freedom United Baptist Church.
