Inman  Sherman


Inman James Sherman, Jr., 87, of Wesley Chapel, Florida (formerly of London, Kentucky), passed
away April 30, 2019, after a short illness.
Inman was born in Hamilton, Ohio, to the late Inman and Axie Sherman. Inman was a graduate of Mount St. Mary's University and a decorated U. S. Army Combat veteran.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Sarah Whitaker Sherman, and his three sons, Inman Sherman, III (Marty) of Bushnell, Florida; Rodney Sherman (Marsha) of Clearwater, Florida; and Ricky Sherman (Rebecca) of San Antonio, Florida. In addition, he is survived by five grandchildren: Zachary Sherman (Ana), Emily Sherman Lumpkins (Jason), Brett Sherman (Landi); Matthew Sherman (Wanda); and Lucas Sherman; and eight great-grandchildren: Landen Sherman, Crosby Lumpkins, Delani Sherman, Austin Sherman, Barrett Lumpkins, Isabel Sherman, Campbell Lumpkins, and Carolina Sherman. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Sherman (Mildred), and his sister, Marie Sherman Lockaby Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Inman served 23 years in the U.S. Army, including assignments to Korea, France and Vietnam and several stateside locations. He retired from the military to London, Kentucky, and relocated to Florida to be closer to his family.
In London, he was an active member of the Corinth Baptist Church and choir for many years and was most recently a member of the First Baptist Church of New Tampa. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a dedicated Christian who enjoyed a challenge in the daily crossword puzzle. He loved University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball and never missed a chance to watch them play.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 13, 2019, at First Baptist Church of New Tampa with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Gideons International, First Baptist Church of New Tampa, and American Cancer Society.
The family is thankful for the loving care of the staff of The Beach House Assisted Living and Gulfside Hospice.
