Hazel Brown passed away August 24, 2016 at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home.
Born October 13, 1928 in Hamilton, Ohio, she was the daughter of James and Nola Fee Mays. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Elbert Brown, her siblings, Ed Mays, Carl Mays, Ernest Ray Mays and Edna Hibbard, and by one grandchild, Charlene Brown.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Strange and husband Ronnie of Lexington, Ky.; and one son, Bailus Brown and wife Irene of London. Besides her children, she is survived by three grandchildren, Robert Brown and wife Reva, Michelle Morris and husband Steve and Chad Bowling, all of London. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Clay and Carson Morris, Josh and Kaleb Brown. She also has 4 step-grandchildren, Stephanie and Amanda Strange, Rhonda Gayheart and Randy Luckett. She is survived by one sister, Alice Lykins and one brother Earl Mays both of London, plus a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing.
Hazel was a retired cook from North Laurel Middle School and a member of New Bethel Baptist church. She loved the people she worked with and she looked forward to going to North Laurel and spending time with them every day. She loved attending gospel singings, going to church and watching WJLC on TV.
Her greatest passion in life was her family and she never missed an opportunity to help them any way she could. She was a very devoted and dedicated companion, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She looked so forward every Sunday to filling the dinner table with delicious food and seeing each one of her family take their seats around the table. She went out of her way to make everyone feel welcome. Her presence can never be replaced.
The family is deeply appreciative to the staff of Jackson Manor Nursing Home for their devotion and care.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, at Bowling Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. with Norm Brock and Donald Tackett officiating.
Burial will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Brown, Josh Brown, Chad Bowling, Steve Morris, David Mays, Danny Mays, Jamie Mays, and Rick Lykins.
