Dr. James Edward's Story
Dr. James Edward McCracken Jr., O.D., 70, of London, Ky., departed this life on August 16, 2016 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Dr. McCracken was born on September 27, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio to James Sr. and Pauline McCracken.
Dr. McCracken attended the University of Kentucky and the Southern College of Optometry. He practiced optometry in London for 41 years and held the office of president of the Kentucky Optometric Association during the 1983-84 term. Dr. McCracken served as an officer in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Ramey Air Force Base in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
Dr. McCracken leaves behind his wife Kay McCracken, his children, Kathy May and husband Terry, Heather Creech and husband Kelly, Allison McCracken, Becky Gilhespie and husband Rogan and Melanie Callahan and husband Shane; grandchildren, Joshua Westerfield, Taylor Schell, Jacob Taylor, Ella Taylor, Blakely Beth Callahan, Oscar Gilhespie, and James Gilhespie; a brother Kenny McCracken, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Dr. McCracken was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Justin; and a brother, Dale McCracken.
He was a long-standing member of London's First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed traveling, skiing, tennis, and sunsets.
Visitation for Dr. McCracken will be at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. Immediately followed by a memorial service.
