Barry E. Leonard


Barry E. Leonard, 72, Founder and Executive Director of Appalachian Mission Initiative, Inc., and beloved husband of Judith "Judy" Leonard, (former faculty member of EKU) passed away, Monday, February 18, 2019, in Louisville.

Barry, who held his Masters of Divinity degree and who was a retired United Methodist Pastor, worked with the Appalachian Christian Project, and Father Ralph W. Beiting, while in living Richmond, Kentucky.

He was a member of St. William Catholic Church in London, Kentucky, and, a member of A.C.T.S. Catholic Men's Fellowship.

In addition to his wife, Judy, survivors include their son, Quinton Thomas Leonard (and Stacie) of Louisville; two grandchildren, Olivia Mae Leonard (senior at EKU) and Alicia Renae Leonard; and one sister, Anita Leonard Carson (and Donald) of Low Gap, North Carolina.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 608 West Main Street, Richmond, Kentucky. Father Charles Howell will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Graveside service will be held out of state, at a later date.
